Mobile phone snatching and theft is on the rise once again and no one would know better other than the people of Karachi. A friend of mine in Karachi got his mobile phone stolen today and that is what making me write this procedure.
To get his mobile SIM blocked, I looked up for various methods where I came across a very informative page on Mobilink’s website. It has all the details you need to report your phone which is lost/stolen or get your SIM blocked.
Report your Lost/Stolen Phone and Block SIM Card
If your mobile phone gets stolen or lost, the first thing you should do is get it reported and blocked so it is useless for whoever who took it. Please make sure your phone connection is in your name and you have your IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number.
How to find IMEI number?
You can find your IMEI number on your phone. Just dial *#06# on your phone and you will be shown your IMEI number. Store it anywhere. Alternatively, IMEI number can also be found on the mobile phone box. Check on one of its sides.
How to report lost/stolen phone
You should follow the steps below to get your lost/stolen phone reported and blocked.
- Call police at 15 to report your missing handset and place a recovery request, even if you think they won’t do anything.
- Call PTA at their toll-free number 0800-25625 to make your phone inoperative.
- Call CPLC (Citizens-Police Liaison Committee) at 021-5682222 to make your phone inoperative – Karachi only.
How to block SIM card
To get your SIM card blocked, you will have to call up your mobile network’s call service helpline and get your number/SIM blocked right away before it gets misused.
You will need to provide the following information:
- IMEI number
- Cell phone number
- Name
- National Identity Card number
- Address and contact number
Many people never report and block their stolen/lost phone or SIM. It is always best to do so before it gets misused by anyone.

My phone was stolen on Saturday 10th of March 2012, I just called 15 to report but they are not even listening to me (they always do the same). They just say go to the nearest police station to file a complaint. I ask my Govt. if some one is bearing a loss is this ok to tease him like go to police station why these online stuffs are for just burn them as alot of tax and revenue is going to run them. or send such useless staff home as they do not help public.
